About the author

Salut !

I moved back to France permanently in 2021 and chose to settle in Bernay, a town I fell in love with about 15 years ago. I wanted to be close to Paris, but far from the madding crowd…

The pic: Taken at Studio Perdereau, 58 Rue Thiers. Yet another thing you could do in Bernay!

I’m French and American, originally from Southern California. I’m a translator (MA, Middlebury Institute of International Studies) and French and English instructor. I founded Francophilia.com back in 2009 (thus the @Francophilia Twitter account). I’ve been blogging since 2007 or so, and I even did an op-ed for CNN about the French and American presidential elections in 2012. All the details and more are on my online portfolio/calling card.

I decided to create this blog because I adore this little town. I’m writing it mostly for English speakers living in Paris, but also seasoned tourists who’d like something different during their trip.

When I lived in Paris (for 9 years), I often longed to get away for a weekend. But when I looked for day trips and weekend trips out of Paris, for some strange reason, Bernay never showed up.

It’s one of those best-kept secrets, I guess. And now you’re in on it. 🙂

Anglophone Bernayens, I would love to hear your stories and write about you!
